The fabric covering the crown gets wrinkly when wet, or when the temperature is freezing or in high humidity. It returns to normal when dry or above freezing.
STUFF- These hats are crudely hand made. Every hat has small defects, crooked lines, dents, bumps and glue stains. The spandex tends to "pill", which can be removed by lightly passing a disposeable shaver over it. (Be carefull not to slice the fabric on corners.) The color fades quicker than a felt hat with lots of sun. Never try to pull the fabric away from the foam where it's glued, the glue will tear. Crushing may leave marks in the front dents. If you crush it and get marks, wait a week to see if they go away. If they don't you can tease them out with the tip of a pin, but again, don't pull hard enough to tear the glue. I can replace the fabric covering. I assume these hats will never taper.

The hat is supported by the top of your head, so, the fit only needs to be tight enough to stabalize it, thus, the hat opening is not stretched at all when worn. The hat opening is also the exact same shape as your head, so the sculpture suffers no distortion when worn. Comfortable, fits like a casual wear baseball cap, which is also supported by the top of your head- not a fedora held on by sweatband pressure. A hidden leather chin strap with a sliding bead MUST be used to keep the hat on when there is a chance of sudden strong gusts of wind.. The brim swoop is heat set and permanent.
(* Some heads will alter the shape of the sculpture. If the sides of your skull flare outwards above your ears, the hat's shape will get pushed out of shape. If your forehead is too vertical, the front dents will get pushed outwards.)
This is a wearable sculpture of a hat, sculpted into soft plastic foam, covered with brown stretchy fabric.
It looks like a tight fit, it's actually a loose fit. The crown walls are thin and there's no sweat band, so the exterior of the base of the crown can be made smaller, making it look like a tight fit. The brim angles up (smiles) like the brim of a tight fitting hat. The ribbon looks cinched up, it's just sculpted to look that way.
